Blog · From our Friday letters

Kaam bhi, mazaa bhi

At Walkover, we believe fun should be a part of not only our work but whatever we do.

That line is from a Friday letter sent on National Fun at Work Day, and it sums up how the letters marked the year. Diwali, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Independence Day, Christmas and every New Year got their own letter. Each was part greeting and part a small reminder of what the festival could mean for us.

लापरवाह नहीं, बेपरवाह

If it's not fun, you're not doing it right.

One letter quoted Bob Basso and then drew a line in Hindi: be बेपरवाह, carefree, not लापरवाह, careless. Make room for what you enjoy every day, and look for something to enjoy even in the parts you don't.

Diwali: light inside too

When you light the lamps to illuminate your surroundings, try to enlighten your soul to illuminate your life.

The Diwali letters went past the essays we all wrote as children. Let go of what holds you back. Say a prayer for those who lost someone this year. And three "sweet nothings" for the season:

How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you. You never lose by loving, you always lose by holding back. Life is a one-time offer, use it well.

Holi: pass it on

The Holi letter asked a question every team that cares about its culture should ask:

Until we make a conscious effort to teach the next generation about our relatives, festivals, mythological legends, and more, they will be lost.

And it ended with a reminder for the day itself: Be a part of the solution, not pollution.

Independence Day: choose well

One long-weekend letter listed the options (rest, parties, movies, a getaway, Rakhi, pending chores, new ideas) and turned it into a thought about freedom:

Appreciating, nurturing and respecting our freedom by being responsible towards it.

Christmas and New Year: थोड़ी मेहनत, थोड़ी मस्ती

Secret Santa, the New Year and new opportunities all arrive in December. So does impatience. One letter's answer:

जब तक क्या किया जाए? वही जो हम रोज़ करते है — थोड़ी मेहनत थोड़ी मस्ती!

Another reminded everyone that the calendar changes on its own, but your life only changes if you want it to:

Ho Ho Ho, You are the Santa of your life.

The Friday letter itself

Maybe the best ritual was the letter itself: every Friday for more than three years, a few honest lines, a bad joke or a song, and a sign-off the whole team knew.

Dream big, work hard, innovate, and enjoy the journey.

Have a fun weekend. Love, Walkover.
